Author: K Quach Kill La Kill is a new anime series brought to us by the anime experts; Madman. Setting up the premise of this series immediately we are introduced to Ryūko Matoi who is a delinquent transfer student who has been drifting from school to school searching for clues about her father's murder. Suspecting that Satsuki knows more than she is letting on, Ryūko lunges at her only to be beaten into the ground by the school's Boxing Club Captain, Takaharu Fukuroda using the power of his two-star Goku Uniform. The series is very action packed, building its story on a very solid note over the first few episodes. The next day, Boxing Club Captain Fukuroda threatens to execute the girl Ryūko met the previous day (Mako Mankanshoku) as a means of drawing Ryūko out of hiding. This time, using her Scissor Blade in tandem with her new uniform's powers, Ryūko manages to one-sidely defeat him and destroy his Goku Uniform. Ryūko questions Satsuki again about the wielder of the other scissor blade and the episode ends. Before Ryūko is able to get any solid answers out of Satsuki regarding her father's murder, Senketsu tells her that he will soon have to disengage the Life Fiber Synchronization to avoid fatal blood loss. Later, at dinner, Mako explains that their family runs a back-alley clinic and that her father treated Ryūko 's wounds. The series really does have a unique animation style that makes it stand out, the character design is unusual (in a good way) which allows us to become engaged into the characters. From there, the tennis club makes plans to use a tournament to further Honnōji Academy's takeover of the world. During the night, Ryūko recalls how she was introduced to the uniform, and how she came to call him Senketsu. The next day, Ryūko and Mako are walking towards the high school when Mako is suddenly barraged by several tennis ball volleys. Afterwards, Satsuki herself appears before Ryūko to challenge her to a fight wielding a blade called Secret Sword: Bakuzan, that can cut through even a Kamui. Senketsu alerts Ryuko to the fact that she's running low on blood again and Ryuko retreats, vowing to finish her fight with Satsuki the next time they see each other. As we learn more about this world, Aikurō tells Ryūko about the Life Fiber that gives the Goku Uniforms their unique properties, with Kamui being uniforms made entirely of Life Fiber. Meanwhile, Satsuki, who is frustrated that Ryūko wore a Kamui before her, puts on a Kamui named Junketsu, which had been sealed away by her family. After hearing Mako's advice that she should get completely naked, Ryūko comes to understand the true nature of a Kamui and unleashes its full power, allowing her to fight on equal ground with Satsuki. After Ryūko vows to crush Satsuki's ambitions in order to get the answers she seeks, Satsuki challenges her with facing every student she throws at her until they once again meet. This ultimately creates tension and engages us the audience deeper into this world, the pacing of the episodes are very fast; so rest assured you will never feel bored during these episodes. A mysterious sniper named Tsumugu Kinagase attempts to assassinate Ryūko, but is interrupted by the gardening club, who he manages to defeat. The next day, Ryūko confronts Tsumugu, who attacks her with needles that drain power from Goku Uniforms and Kamui, whilst they both come under attack by the gardening, rakugo and hyakunin-isshu clubs. With the clubs wiped out and Ryūko backed into a corner, Senketsu gives himself up to protect Ryūko, but Mako stands up to Tsumugu and returns Senketsu to Ryūko. As Tsumugu comes to understand the bond between Ryūko and Senketsu, they are confronted by one of the four elites, Nonon Jakuzure, but manage to escape. Overall this is a very interesting and unique series that stands out, as you can tell it is just getting started with plenty more to come. The english dub is very well done so either version is great to watch. SPECIAL FEATURES
Thankfully madman include their usual textless openings with the titles so you can watch the beautiful animations uninterrupted. Overall: 4/5 (Recommended)
